Introduction of Memsource

Introduction to the basic operations of the Memsource editor tool

We will introduce the basic operations to start performing translations on Memsource.

1. When opening the editor, a window as below will appear.

2. The main screen will show source language and target language.

3. Translated texts can also be displayed.

4. The right side of the editor window (the “CAT” section), will display information to help you translate more efficiently.

Each line is called a “segment”, and is identifiable by the number to the left (called the segment number).

6. When entering translated text in the target column, you can press Ctrl + Enter, or click on the red x mark.

7. Formatting will be displayed by buttons on the editor windows or by pressing keyboard shortcuts (eg Ctrl+B is bold)

8. In case the source text displays the memsource tag (the blue number is displayed with the text), the same can be displayed in the target text.
Move the cursor to the position where you want to add the tag, then press the F8 button or use the tag button to insert the tag.

9. In the CAT section, the translation memory will be displayed, the vocabulary corresponding to the selected segment, if double-clicked, can automatically enter the translation memo and that word in the translated text column.

10. When you want to search for translation memos and words, you can press Ctrl+K or click the search button to display the search results.

Advanced editing function

Add terms

This function allows translators to both perform translations and add terms into the term base. To add a new one, select the word, then press Ctrl+T, or press the “add” button on the toolbar.

Search and replace

Search term (Ctrl+F), replace Ctrl+H.

Filter function

If you enter a word or phrase into the filter, all segments containing that word or phrase will be displayed.

Re-edit the source

Only authorized compilers can use this function. To edit, move to the segment you want to edit, then click “edit” and select “edit source” or press the F2 button.

Merge segments

To merge, place the cursor over the corresponding segment, press Ctrl+J or press the following icon on the toolbar.

Segment Separation

To split we put the cursor on the part to be split and then press Ctrl + E or press the following icon.

Repeat positions

Repeated position (completely identical in segment), if the green check button is pressed, all other segments will automatically display the translated text automatically. The repeat positions have many green arrow buttons pointing downwards as shown in the following figure..

The source text is displayed below, if you want to display the original text, press “tool”, then select “preview”.

Comment function(Conversation)

If you click on the conversation recording icon to the right of each segment, you can make comments there.

Icon insert function

Select “edit” → “insert symbol” → “other symbol” and you will be able to insert special characters such as symbols for currencies, alphanumeric symbols, etc..

QA check function

Before completing the operation, conduct QA check. Depending on the project settings there are also cases where QA’s issue resolution cannot be completed. Before the report is complete, QA should be done first.

To perform QA click on “do” in the “QA” tab on the right.

After performing QA, it is possible to display content that violates QA according to the list. Placing a pointer on each of these items will move to the object segment and possibly reassert the violation and correct the violation.

User spell check dictionary

DOCX (bilingual docx) display function

Go to “document”->”extract bilingual docx”, you can download the translation file in word format.

Show change history

If you have more than one person working on the same project, you can show the translation history changes in the steps. Below is an example screen of T translated, R edited.

Translation completion report

When the translation is completed, the status can be changed so that the report is complete.
Change status by “approve”.
